LinkedIn Workshop and Pro Photography
On February 21, 2019 members and supporters of the Veteran Community attended a LinkedIn Workshop at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory hosted by the Veterans in Energy Technology & Science (VETS). Six professional photographers donated their time to create head shots for attendees’ career branding. LLNL recruiters and a handful of hiring managers attended to speak directly to attendees about career opportunities for them.
VETS outreach officer Michele Morris who was a key organizer of the event stated “We have thousands of active duty personnel that are making the transition from military life to civilian life. We’re hoping that through events like this one, we can assist them in effectively marketing the skills they acquired during their military career.“
Attendees included veterans, active duty military personnel, and military spouses that are not current LLNL employees. This type of community outreach is important not only to build skills for our veteran community but also to promote how veteran friendly LLNL is as a National Laboratory.
According to VETS Vice Chair Adrian Valenzuela, “ Developing workshops for fellow veterans and interacting with the community on social media has led to an increase of interest in careers at LLNL among the military community. By actively promoting our veteran culture we have been able to establish new relationships with veterans that want to continue their national service with LLNL.“
Navy Chief Erik Hanson who connected with VETS on social media is an Aviation Electrician working towards a career at LLNL. Hanson was thrilled with the event, “The amazing culture of LLNL was great to witness. It is very evident it is an incredible place to work. “
Josh Stuart, a Navy veteran and new LLNL employee, also attended the workshop, and found that “The LinkedIn course and photography session was a great event put together by the VETS group and a significant opportunity for veterans to gain insight into the inner workings of LinkedIn. I was amazed at the effort put forth for the professional headshots and am very happy with the results. A great photo is invaluable and something I have put off for way too long!”
